US-based domain name and internet security company Verisign released its Q1 2018 report, "The Domain Name Industry Brief," which highlights trends in domain name registrations and includes key performance indicators.
Overall,domain name registrations are growing by approximately 3.2 million, or 1%, year over year. Check out these other interesting stats from the Q1 report:
- There are 333.8 domain registrations across all top-level domains — about 1.4 million domain more name registrations than Q4 2017.
- Total country-code TLD (ccTLD) domain name registrations were about 146.3 million, an increase of 0.1% over Q4 2017.
- The .com and .net TLDs had a combined total of approximately 148.3 million domain name registrations in the domain name base at the end of the first quarter of 2018 — an increase of approximately 1.9 million domain name registrations over the fourth quarter of 2017.
- As of Mar. 31, 2018, the .com domain name base totaled approximately 133.9 million domain name registrations, while the .net domain name base totaled approximately 14.4 million domain name registrations.
