This week’s update features news about .CLUB, DONUTS DPML PLUS, and a newly delegated gTLD.
.CLUB – June Trademark Protection Program
Registry operator .CLUB DOMAINS, LLC announced the launch of its .CLUB Trademark Protection Program, which runs from June 1–30. During this period, any new registration or renewal of registration that has a term of eight years or more will receive a 50% refund. In order to qualify, a registrant must have a valid trademark of an exact or similar term (which may be demonstrated by existence in the Trademark Clearinghouse or a public trademark record). For example, a “trademark.CLUB” registration extended from a 1-year registration to a 10-year registration during the offer period in June would receive a 50% refund for the 9-year renewal.
Brand clients may wish to consider this Trademark Protection Program, as .CLUB is one of the new gTLDs most subject to both the UDRP and URS — the registry has indicated that because of the nature of the word “club” and its community meanings, a UDRP proceeding is not a sure win for a brand and that securing the relevant trademark names for standard fees is a much safer strategy.
Donuts DPML Plus Now Available Permanently
Registry operator Donuts announced it has once again extended the availability of its DPML Plus product so that it is now available as a long-term solution. It was initially introduced for a three-month period.
New gTLD Delegated
One further new gTLD has recently been delegated: .ETISALAT to Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (trading as Etisalat) on June 1, 2017.
